Best New Restaurants of 2015: New York

Here's how I can tell which are really, truly my favorite restaurants among those I spent the year revisiting and reviewing : I recommend them to my friends. Every time someone asks me where to take their parents when they're in town, or where to book an anniversary dinner, or where to go for a perfect meal, alone at the bar after a rough day, I don't go back and read my reviews.

David Bowie's Weirdly Brilliant MusicalBy Tim Teeman

Not for David Bowie a Broadway spectacular, but 'Lazarus,' an extension of a vintage Bowie role and filled with songs old and new, and some as familiar as 'Lazarus' is strange. " Lazarus contains its own surreal logic, but at its heart it seems to be about love and connection, and the forces that can make or violently break such connections."

Space oddity: 'Lazarus' is Bowie on Broadway

Few shows have sold out their entire run as quickly - it took only minutes. Even fewer have been mounted with such secrecy - meaningful advance information about the script, the characters or the list of songs was almost impossible to squeeze out of the New York Theatre Workshop, under pressure or otherwise.

4 Things Tony Avella and David Weprin Get Totally Wrong About Toll Reform

No, the past nine years weren't just a dream and you didn't wake up in 2006 . State senators David Weprin and Tony Avella, the Queens Civic Congress, and a few other Queens elected officials really did put on a press conference yesterday to guard against the possibility that New York might put a rational price on the East River bridges, cursing the city with less traffic, faster bus service, and the absence of honking.

Newspaper Boxes Find New Work as Community Compost Bins

Composting can feel just as alien to a city-dweller as metro systems and concrete can feel to a country mouse. But Debbie Ullman, a graphic designer who until 2013 worked for the legendary newspaper The New York Daily News , has one interesting conceit for getting New Yorkers used to the idea of turning their organic trash into treasure: transforming street-corner newspaper boxes into attractive collection sites with the punny monkier "The New York Com post."
