In the past three years, at least 17 community hospitals in the New York City area have joined larger systems, and the deals show no sign of abating. As hospitals in the five boroughs join forces or expand through takeovers, there are fewer spots in the C-suite, in middle management and in clinical leadership - forcing some people to change fields or reinvent themselves.
