When " Hair ," playwrights Gerome Ragni and James Rado's "American tribal love-rock musical," hit the stage of the Public Theater in New York City's East Village in the fall of 1967, it was as if the colorful bohemia of the Village had simply walked through the theater doors and onto the stage.
